Pingu Builds A Tower

Have you ever thought about how many different literacy skills we use and practice when watching a programme with no speaking in it??  Check this out.

Room 5 watched this clip then went away to independently write a story to go with it.  Here are some snippets of what they wrote, eventually retelling the whole story.

Pingu, his little brother and their friend Seal were looking in a magazine and saw a humungous tower going up to the clouds. - Sophie
They decided to make one using ice bricks.  They all had jobs to do.  Pingu made the tower while his brother and Seal got the ice bricks. The tower was getting higher. - Michael
Seal found a plank of wood and had an idea.  Pingu's little brother thought Seal had made a seesaw but they used it to boost the bricks up to Pingu.  His little brother would push the bricks on and Seal would slap his tail on the other end, making them fly up to Pingu. - Jordan
The last bricks were too heavy and the plank broke.  Pingu's Uncle came along and saw what they were trying to do.  He laughed at them and Pingu got angry so threw snowballs at him until he went away. - Hannah
Then a hungry seagull landed next to Pingu and he wouldn't go away.  Seal threw a fish up for him to have and he flew away with it. -  Aden
The ice bricks ran out so Pingu's little brother started to take them from the bottom of the tower. - Caitlyn
The tower started tipping and Seal quickly tried to put the bricks back in the right place but the tower caved in. - Micaiah
The tower fell and Pingu was covered with all the ice bricks. - Paeroa
Pingu was still alive and they pulled some of the ice bricks away so he could get out.  Pingu and the others went to the magazine and looked at the picture again before throwing it away. - Toby
They decided it was a dumb idea and didn't end up building another tower. - Cole
